René Francisco. Cómplice

On the occasion of the first solo exhibition in Italy by Cuban artist and educator René Francisco, Kunsthaus presents a comprehensive overview of his more than forty-year-long practice. Spread across all three floors, the exhibition features installations, films, drawings, paintings, as well as pedagogical and sociological research. At the heart Cómplice lies the concept of complicity: a deep emotional and social bond formed through collaboration, participation and friendship.

René Francisco understands art as a social tool capable of actively transforming social and political realities. His conceptual practice is closely intertwined with social engagement. Thematically, he reflects on power structures, critiques of consumerism and utopian ideals, often drawing on Cuban iconography. In his work, art, life and education are inseparably connected.
