about scapes
.scapes
is a project for the research into and perception of landscapes
which are always a rich entity of mental and material images
of space. Using the instrument of art, science and landscape
planning, the project seeks to advance a conscious feeling
for the landscape.
By exploring landscapes, .scapes
not only detects original shapes of the territory but also
the changes it experiences through human, technical and artificial
intrusions.
What we commonly understand as landscape
thereby comes under closer scrutiniy; it is focused on sophisticatedly
as the result of actual human interferences, changes and designs
and its historical, anthropological and economic emergence
are emphasised without wanting to imply judgement.
.scapes seeks to open access to
landscape in the most varied form possible, to unfold its
complexity and to cociously heighten sensibility of the public
to landscapes.
Alongside science and literature,
it is art which, as an instrument for beholding landscape,
can give most valuable views and analyses and can draw attention
to the special connection between the subject and its surroundings.
Discussion groups, workshops and
series of lectures, will broaden in this sense, the spectrum
of .scapes. With the excursion-series "creeping landscapes"
.scapes continues its exploration of landscapes and the oppotunities
of landscapes in the year of 2004.
The catalogue .scapes of the quarterly
magazine "Atlas" of the INU Alto Adige South Tyrol Nr. 26
in March 2004 documents the project .scapes in its breadth
and content and events to date, using foto-material from the
exhibition "Alpine landscapes in upheaval", as well as text,
contributions and interviews. Another atlas, presenting the
future focus points and accompanying the programm is already
in the planning stages, as well as a large-scale publication
which will carry the project and its widely varying explorations.
