Boris Mikhailov was born in 1938 in Kharkov, Ukraine. He
is considered one of the most important photographers in the former
Soviet Union. He lived and worked in his home town Kharkov for
many decades, but has now been living in Berlin for a number of years.
Mikhailov has the ability to discover the unusual where others see
nothing at all. His working method is conceptual and socialdocumentary.
His photographs are regarded as historical documents,
means of creating works of art, self-portraits, and political comments.
Mikhailov has created numerous series of photographs that document
everyday life in the city around him in a very personal manner.
Two of his best known works are the ‘Rote Serie’ [‘Red Series’]
und ‘Case History’.
This is one of the first personal exhibitions of Mikhailov in Italy.
