I will never forget you ...
Frida Kahlo & Nickolas Muray
02.07. _ 27.08.2006
A sensation in photography and art history: the mostly
colored portraits of Frida Kahlo by the New York photographer
Nickolas Muray. In the thirties and forties, Muray was
Frida Kahlo's lover and confidant.
Their joint photographic project generated a wealth of
pictures that form a landmark in the history of early
color photography.
The rare case of a great painter who, maimed by an accident
and illness, rises from her body as a photographic model
in glowing beauty-the pictures can almost be regarded
as performance photos-is documented in 56 color and duo-tone
plates.
The book on the series of photographs published by Salomon
Grimberg with Schirmer/Mosel in 2004 is the first to compile
all the photographs, most of which were unpublished until
then.
This exhibition has been made possible by co-operation
with the Nickolas Muray Photo Archives, Alta Lodge (USA)
and Schirmer/Mosel Showroom, Munich.
