The festival "Merano Spring" is like spring itself: invigorating, inspiring, manifold. It offers workshops, performances, guided tours, and far more. For the second edition of this event project, artists from all over Europe have added their touch to selected sites. Some of their works are impressive and even accessible; others are subtle interventions in the landscape that require sharp eyes. Series of artworks invite viewers to take long outdoor strolls. After a long winter, that is balm for the body and soul. The prelude to the festival

ARK
Location: Kurpromenade (in front of the kurhaus), Merano
Artists: Alois Steger and l Paul Sebastian Feichterois Steger and Paul Sebastian Feichter
Curated by: Heinrich Schwazer
"Ark" is an 18-meter-long boat, made only out of euro pallets. The title of the work refers to the houseboat that Noah built according to God's command, to survive the 40-day Flood. In mankind's memory, the ark has become the universal symbol of all fear of catastrophes and longing for salvation. It is not by chance that it is made out of euro pallets: they are classics in the transport industry; a steady flow of goods would be unthinkable without these simple pallets made of boards, blocks, and nails. An estimated more than 500 million of them are circulating worldwide. Today, Noah would build his ark out of pallets. The walk-in ark is located on the Kurpromenade. In the middle, there is an open room that can serve as a meeting point. The ark itself is full of possibilities, including the possibility of pondering pressing questions of our future: do we need a new ark? How could it look like?

LUCA AT THE MUSEUM
The diverse program of the "Merano Spring" festival includes the publication of an artist book for children entitled "Luca im Museum" ["Luca at the Museum"] published by the Corraini Edizioni publishing house. Several traveling ateliers will implement the plot through workshops for children and youth.
Luca is a little creature who lives with his friends on the Gilfpromenade in Merano. One day, Luca falls off a tree and is found and picked up by a boy called Simon. That is the beginning of an adventure that leads Luca through Merano - from the Gilfpromenade with its lush vegetation to the characteristic lanes of downtown Merano - against the backdrop of the towering mountain peaks in the distance that are illustrated in the picture book. The texts by Michael Heinze and the vibrant illustrations by Katrin Stangl invite readers to
follow Luca through his amusing, colorfully depicted adventures. The book project was suggested by the archive for artist books for children "Opla" (Stadtbibliothek Meran). "Luca im Museum" is the second volume of a book series that is continued every year on occasion of the "Merano Spring" festival. The commissioned authors are asked to independently interpret the varied landscape of Merano in the framework of an illustrated story.

The "Merano Spring" festival is initiated by the Merano municipality and the Merano Tourist Bureau and is implemented in cooperation with Merano Arte, Marketinggesellschaft Meran, the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, and the municipalities of Schenna, Naturns, and Tirol.
The projekt "Art & Nature 2016 - Walking with Senses" is curated by BAU.
