Contemporary Architecture in Finland

Opening: 30.01.2009
Duration: 31.01 - 13.04.2009
Curator: Arianna Callocchia

The exhibition Contemporary Architecture in Finland presents selected contemporary Finnish architecture projects that fascinate not only with their high functional and technical quality, but also with their special capability of focusing on human needs.

Wood is predominantly used, as it is a natural resource in Finland. Daylight floods the interior.
A coming to terms with nature, the power of its formations, the integration into the landscape, and the reflection of the seasons in the interior of the buildings bear witness to the sensitivity of the planners. It is just the 'normality' of many of the exhibited buildings that is actually new and a discontinuation of the aesthetic overload of numerous houses built in the recent past.

The exhibition itself, the guest lecture by Professor Ilmari Lahdelma (Lahdelma & Mahlamäki Architects, Helsinki), as well as the relevant discussions will bring to light whether various aspects of contemporary Finnish architecture can serve as a source of inspiration for architecture in the Alpine region.
